Child kidnapped in Katiadi ransom demanded, rescued after 16 hours
A two-and-a-half-year-old child was kidnapped in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi and demanded a ransom of six lakh taka. 16 hours after the kidnapping, the police rescued the kidnapped child on Wednesday morning and arrested three people on charges of involvement in the incident. Two of the detainees are teenagers. One of them is the child’s cousin. The other is Nur Uddin (37). The name of the kidnapped child is Azad. He is the son of Saudi expatriate Sohel Mia and Kalpana Akter from Chatol village of the upazila. According to police and local sources, a teenage cousin of Azad’s came to visit his house yesterday Tuesday afternoon. In the afternoon, he took Azad to play near the house. Although the teenager returned to his uncle’s house in the afternoon, the child Azad did not return with him. At that time, when Azad’s mother Kalpana Akter asked about her son, the teenager kept making excuses. He even started searching for Azad with his relatives to keep himself out of reach.
Around 6 pm, an unknown cell phone called the child’s mother Kalpana Akhter and demanded a ransom of six lakh taka. Kalpana Akhter filed a kidnapping complaint with the Katiadi Model Police Station after informing her about the matter. The nephew was also with her at the time. Later, the child was rescued with the help of information technology. Three people, including the child’s cousin, were arrested. Officer-in-charge of the Katiadi Model Police Station Md. Tariqul Islam said that after receiving the complaint, the police tried to find out the location of the kidnappers with the help of information technology. At that time, the child’s cousin, who seemed suspicious, was detained and questioned, and he confessed to the kidnapping. Later, the police rescued the child Azad from the Nagua area of Kishoreganj district headquarters. Later, the two accomplices of the teenager were arrested from there. This afternoon, the kidnappers were arrested and sent to jail through the court.
